Man in police custody over assassination attempt

A middle aged man, Idris Abubakar, a resident of Maganda village in Doguwa local government area has been arrested by the police over alleged assassination attempt.

A statement signed by the spokesman of Kano police command, SP Magaji Musa Majia, said the suspect was arrested on 11/11/2018 in a hired Taxi armed with loaded Locally made pistol on his way to Rijiyar Lemo quarters to kill his business partner whom he owes the sum of N480, 000.

Majia said the suspect wanted to assassinate his creditor so as to divert the money he owes to his personal use.

Police said the suspect had confessed to the crime and was helping the police in investigation.

Similarly, the command also confirmed the arrest of two suspected impostors named Abba Usman Garba of Sauna Kawaji quarters, Kano and Jamilu Abubakar aka Bamayi of Unity School Ringim Jigawa State who have been posing as police officers extorting money from the public.

The command’s PPRO said the duo was arrested in possession of dangerous weapon and other police hard wares.

Majia said during investigation it was discovered that, the said Jamilu was a dismissed police corporal.

He said Jamilu had bargained N150,000 with Abba in order to recruit him into the Nigeria Police.

“He issued police ID card and set of uniforms bearing the Rank of Sergeant to him. They posed as policemen and extort unsuspecting members of the public. During search at their residents, exhibit of a set of police uniform, 1 handcuff, a warrant card, 1 catapult, 19 bows, 1 sword, 1 knife, 2 toy walkie-talkie, 2 ATM cards, 1 computer laptop, 2 copies of police wireless message and 3 sets of black clothes were recovered” Majia added.
