A man whose name was not immediately disclosed was arrested in Ikoneto ward in Odukpani LGA of Cross River State for illegally being in possession of 250 PVCs.

Neither state Police Public Relations Officer Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Hogan Bassey nor INEC public affairs officer could immediately react to the detention of the man.

However, Senate Committee Chairman of Banking,Finance and Allied Matters, Senator Bassey Otu confirmed that the man was caught early Saturday morning near his ward in Effut Adiabo in Odukpani LGA when accreitation exercise started.

“I am not in a possession to give you details yet but I can confirm authoritatively that he is detained at Ikoneto police post yet and undergoing questioning by security agencies”, he said.

Otu who represents Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State in the National Assembly is the Labour Party candidate .
He said several eligibile voters were unable to obtain their PVCs due to inability of INEC to effectively distribute them to registered owners.

He also alleged that the ruling party had made several attempts to disenfranchised eligible voters using assorted gimmicks.

Otu said he will abide wih the outcome of the Senatorial elections after casting his vote at Government Primary school Adiabo Effut ward Okurikang Odukpani Local Government Area.

He commended INEC for determined effort to conduct free and fair election.

Presiding officer of the polling Unit, David Onoja said 202 people where accreditated out of the 417 registered voters.

At Ikot Okon Abasi Creek-Town Presiding Officer Aderoju Olubusayo said 158 out of 164 people where accredited and attributed the delay in the process to the card-reader which was the same complain in many other units.

Iso Bassey of the Coalition of Civil Society Group in Nigeria (CSGIN) ) expressed happiness with the use of card-reader and its functionality.

Also a member of the Transition Monitoring, Group Bassey, Okim said despite little hitches here and there the elections in the state was very peaceful and credible
