The police have arraigned one Auwalu Idi before a senior magistrate’s court in Katsina over alleged involvement in the theft of 22 cows and a sheep.
Idi, a cattle herder was accused of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and armed robbery, contrary to sections 97, 312 of penal code and Section 1(a&b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions Act, Cap R11, LFN, 2004).
Police prosecutor Sani Ado said Idi was entrusted with the grazing of the animals before cattle rustlers stormed and stole the animals.
“Idi is strongly being suspected to have conspired with cattle rustlers to attack the son of the ranch owner and rob him off the animals which value is yet to be ascertained,” he said.
He told the court that when cattle rustlers stormed the ranch about 1.30am September 17, Idi was nowhere to be found.
The presiding senior magistrate, AbdulKareem Umar, directed that Idi be remanded in prison custody till November 27 when the case is expected to come up for mention.
