A Senior Magistrate court sitting at No Man’s Land, Kano has sentenced one Shetima K. Muhammad of Hadeja road to three months imprisonment having found guilty of cheating.
The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate Aisha Muhammad Yahya, however, offered the convict an option of N3, 000 fine.
The court also ordered the convict to pay a compensation to the following; Onyeaka Dansoko N20, 000, Somadina Okoronkwo N18, 000 and Mr Obinna Mbazu N80, 000.
Muhammad was arraigned for four-count charge of cheating, criminal misappropriation, breach of trust and impersonation contrary to sections 308, 311, 320 and 179 of the Penal Code Law.
He was accused of collecting the sum of N326, 500 from Mr Obinna Mbazu, Mrs Ogochukwu Udenza, Somadina Okoronkwo and Onyeaka Dansoko with intent to secure admission and jobs for them.
According to First Information Report (FIR), Mr Obinna, who reported the case to the police on behalf of other complainants, lamented that Muhammad squandered the money and failed to provide them with jobs and admission respectively.
The complainants also told the police that on different occasions Muhammad had presented himself as director of the Department of Security Service (DSS) in Kano.
The case will come up today for further hearing on impersonation offense.
