A Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Gwagwalada, Abuja, has sentenced a 50-year-old man, Lazarus Salami, to 30 months imprisonment with an option of N25,000 fine for allegedly using a shovel to inflict injuries on Williams Mashek, a staff member of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC),

The judge, Musa Umar Angulu, while delivering the judgment yesterday, said the convict’s conduct contravened sections 263 and 265 of the penal code.

He ordered the convict to pay compensation to the complainant in the sum of N35, 000 which he brought under section 219 ACJA 2015, and section 78 of the penal code law.

The prosecutor, Barrister A. A. Tanko, had arraigned the convict before the court on a four-count charge of criminal force, assault, intentionally causing  hurt and obstructing a public servant while discharging his official duties, which he brought under section 263, 265, 240, and 148 of the penal code law.

He told the court that the convict attacked the complainant, an AEDC staff member in Gwagwalada, with a shovel during electricity disconnection exercise in the area, which he said led to the AEDC worker sustaining serious injuries on his head.
