Man jailed 30 months for stealing airtime

An Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday, sentenced one Aliyu Sani to 30 months’ imprisonment for stealing phones, smart watches, earbuds and airtime worth N1,366,000.

The judge, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The judge gave the convict an option of a N20,000 fine or six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy, and another option of a N20,000 fine or 24 months’ imprisonment for theft.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Daniel Ijuptil, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on August 21 by Mr. Umar Abubakar, the complainant.

He said the complainant told the police that the now-convict conspired with his gang, broke into his shop, and stole four Itel smartwatches, eight earbuds (earpods), MTN and Airtel airtimes, and four phones, all valued at ₦1,366,000.

The prosecutor also told the court that during police investigation, the accused person confessed to the offence. (NAN)
