Man jailed 6 months for attacking neighbour over food

An Iyaganku magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, sentenced a 30-year-old man, Olatunde Busayo, to six months in prison for attacking his neighbour with a cutlass during a dispute over food.

Busayo, who was charged with assault, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, sentenced him to six months in a correctional facility without the option of a fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that Busayo – an ex-convict – committed the offence on December 7, in Olunloyo Estate, New GRA, Ibadan.

Adegbenro stated that the convict used a cutlass to inflict an injury on the neck of one Patrick Isaiah, a security guard who resides in the same neighborhood.

He explained that Busayo attacked Isaiah because the latter failed to give him food during a ceremony held in a compound.

He said Busayo chased Isaiah down the street after the ceremony and struck him on the neck with the weapon to the provisions of Section 355 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
