Man jailed for attempting to rob pregnant woman in Kano

A Shari’a Court No. 1 sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano Municipality has sentenced one Adamu Abdulmalik to one year in prison after he was found guilty of trespassing and assaulting a pregnant woman.

The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Aliya Aminu Yargaya, said the defendant went to the home of the victim at TsamiyarBoka and posed as someone sent by her husband.

According to him, the defendant knocked on the victim’s door, and when she opened it, he grabbed her by the neck and demanded her phone. 

He fled the scene after she screamed for help, the prosecutor added. He was charged with trespass, use of excessive force, and attempted robbery. The defendant pleaded not guilty only to the charge of using force.

Presiding judge, Khadi Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini, sentenced him to one year imprisonment and 45 strokes of the cane for trespass and assault, and an additional six months imprisonment with 27 strokes of the cane for attempted robbery.
