A magistrate court in Kano has sentenced a man to three months in prison for burning vehicle tires, an act that violates environmental safety regulations and is considered hazardous to public health.
The defendant, Ibrahim Abubakar, was arraigned after residents of Tukuntawa Quarters reported the incident to the Kano State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
Officials from the ministry investigated and confirmed the offence.
The ministry’s legal department then charged Abubakar with actions that were detrimental to human health and the environment.

Magistrate Auwal Umar Sulaiman found him guilty of breaching environmental safety laws and sentenced him to three months in prison or a fine of N30,000.
