A magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sentenced a man, Ojo Olowokere, for open defecation and noise pollution.
The prosecutors, Opeyemi Adebayo and Abiola Ibitayo, told the court that the defendant’s neighbours reported him for his unhygienic practices and noise pollution and that he failed to comply with an abatement notice issued to him by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on April 16, mandating him to provide sanitary conveniences on his premises.
The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, found the defendant guilty of the offences and sentenced him to six months in prison with an option of N15,000 fine, emphasising the severity of his offences and the importance of upholding environmental standards.
