Police First Information EIR report read to the accused in court, said the lady, a resident of Gwange ward, Maiduguri, reported on March 29, at Bulunkutu police station that the accused snatched her bag while on Okada after which the accused was arrested.

The Police also noted that the bag contained N5000 while the bag was valued at N3500.

The accused was charged with theft under section 282 of the penal code and when the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The presiding magistrate, Aisha Umara Kumalia in her ruling, sentenced him to six months imprisonment or to pay the complainant the sum of N8,500 as compensation in addition to a fine of N1,000.
