A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Nura Lawal, to nine months in prison for allegedly stealing a bag containing credentials of an applicant.

Lawal, who resides in Angwa Beriber, Life Camp Abuja,  pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and theft

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N10,000 fine and warned him against taking to crime in future.

Maiwada also ordered the convict to pay N30,000 as compensation to the complainant.

“In default of the payment, the convict will serve six months in prison,’’ the judge added.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that one John Idoko, who lives behind Karmo primary school, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Sept. 15.

She said the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house through the window.

The prosecutor said that Lawal stole the complainant’s bag containing his credentials, N45, 000, 3 T shirts and nine trousers, all valued at N63, 000.

She explained that during police investigation, Lawal confessed that he sold the clothes to one Ismail Usman and Awel Ayuba.

The prosecution added that the credentials were recovered from him.

She further informed the court that Lawal was charged to court some time ago by the Life Camp police station for a similar offence.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
