A Magistrate Court in sitting Ilorin, Kwara State, has sentenced a man, Tijani Azeez, to two weeks of community service for stealing a tricycle, popularly known as keke, from a residential area in the state capital.

He was arraigned over criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft, mischief, and concealment of stolen property.

The case was transferred from ‘G’ Division, Oloje, to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to the police’ First Information Report (FIR), the complainant, Abdulwahab Abdulrasheed of Alore, Idi-Ose area, reported on June 29, 2025, that he parked his TVS tricycle with registration number PTG 431 VD, valued at N4 million, in front of his house on the night of June 28.

“However, by the next morning, the tricycle had disappeared. While heading to Oko-Olowo on June 30, the complainant spotted his stolen tricycle in the possession of Tijani Azeez and immediately apprehended him before handing him over to the police.

interrogation at the CID, Azeez confessed to the theft and led officers to one Taiye Omitoki, a mechanic in Eiyekorin area of Ilorin, where parts of the stolen tricycle had been dismantled and hidden and recovered from the mechanic’s workshop during a police search on July 2.

Adisa Akinjide prosecuted the case on behalf of the police.

Following his guilty plea, Magistrate Gambari convicted Azeez and sentenced him to two weeks of community service.

The second accused, Taiye Omitoki, was discharged and acquitted by the court after it was established that he only acted in his capacity as a mechanic and had no prior knowledge of the theft.
