Man jailed one year for stealing 1 mudu of beans

A 31-year-old man, Iliya Abdullahi of Shelleng LGA, Adamawa State, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for stealing one mudu (measure) of beans.

Daily Trust gathered that Abdullahi was earlier convicted and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Shelleng Area Court 2 for the offence, contrary to Section 277 of the Penal Code.

After he was convicted for stealing the one measure of beans, he was sent to prison on November 15, 2025.

His sentence was, however, reviewed by the head of the Jail Delivery Committee (JDC), who doubles as the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman.

Justice Abdulrahman reviewed the convict’s sentence from two years to one year when her committee visited the Shelleng Satellite Custodial Centre on Wednesday.

She advised him to be of good behaviour and contribute positively towards the development of the society.
