Man jumps off Lagos bridge after stealing hair worth N20m from moving truck

Detectives from Ebute-Ero police station have arrested a 32-year-old robbery suspect, Austine, after he jumped from Eko Bridge to evade arrest.

The suspect, who broke his limbs and hand, had allegedly broken into a moving truck, along with others, and stole female hair (attachments) worth N20 million.

His arrest followed police response to a tip-off about a brazen highway theft on the CMS-Marina Bridge.

The arrest followed a reported case of theft of a large sack filled with assorted human hair valued at N20 million from a moving truck.

The attack, which was orchestrated by a criminal gang that operates during peak traffic hours on highways in the metropolis, occurred on April 25.

It was gathered that the attack on the truck by the gang was without the knowledge of the driver, who was on transit along the CMS-Marina Bridge.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest, saying it was in response to a tip-off.

Hundeyin said police officers arrived at the scene and apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Austine, in the Marina car park under the bridge with injuries he sustained when he jumped from the bridge into the car park in his bid to evade arrest.

“He was found in possession of the stolen items and has been taken to a hospital for proper medical attention under close police watch. A manhunt is currently underway to bring other members of his gang to justice,” he stated.
