A 20-year-old man, identified as Jibrin Saidu Lamido, has been killed following a violent altercation over a romantic relationship at Gurdadi village, Yusufari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Sources said that the incident occurred around 2 am on Monday when the deceased reportedly visited the home of his girlfriend, identified as Saratu Gata, aged 22, in Kalameri village.
Another lover of the girl, a rival of the deceased, was said to have arrived at the scene, took the lady away, and challenged the deceased to follow them if he was “truly a man.”
“A fight subsequently broke out between both men, during which the suspect allegedly attacked Jibrin with a cutlass, inflicting severe injuries on his neck,” the source said.
Sources indicated that security operatives from Kumaganam Outstation rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Kumaganam, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, saying the remains were later released to relatives for burial after an autopsy was conducted.
He further said that police operatives are intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and the lady.
