A seven-year-old girl, Zakiya Auwal, was killed by one Ismail Ibrahim in Unguwan Rimi community of Jos-North Local Government Area Plateau State.

The acting spokesman of the state police command, Mansur Sha’aban, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been arrested and investigation had commenced into the matter.

The suspect was said to have hit the victim repeatedly with a stone on her head in her father’s house.

Daily Trust reports that the incident occurred on Saturday at about 4 pm when the mother was sleeping and the father had gone out.

According to a witness, Haruna Auwal, who is an elder brother to the deceased, the suspect accosted his sister when she was about to go out of their house.

“I was already outside when the suspect approached our area asking people to either give him money or be killed. He held a man and the man gave N50 and he allowed him to pass.

“Moments later, he chased many kids including me. We all ran but he then entered our house and suddenly held my sister as she was coming out of the house.

“He took a stone, pushed her to the ground and hit her with it on the head repeatedly until their brain came out. She died instantly’’, he said.

The father of the deceased, Auwal Bello Zakari, while expressing shock over the incident said he did not know the suspect and called on the authorities to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

Our correspondent reports that the suspect was taken to Unguwan Rogo Police Division but later transferred to ‘A’ Division of the Police Area Command, Jos.
