A 29-year-old man has allegedly admitted to killing his 99-year-old aunt whom he accused of using her spiritual power to change his ‘Baba Ijebu’ lotto winning number.

The suspect, Owolabi Folorunso Adewale, was arrested on March 4 by detectives attached to Ogun State police command.

The suspect, according to the police, had admitted before homicide detectives that he slaughtered the old woman because he had a feeling that she was responsible for most of his spiritual problems.

It was learnt that the suspect, who is a regular player of Baba Ijebu lotto, also alleged that each time he was at the verge of winning, his aged aunt would ‘alter the numbers spiritually’.

“Whenever I am sure of wining, the deceased who is my father’s elder sister will use her supernatural power to change the winning number,” he claimed.

Spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the arrest of the suspect followed a distress call received by the DPO, Ago-Iwoye Division, CSP Ade Adedoyin, that a man had slaughtered his aunty, one Ebunola Aroboto, at Maraisa Lane Igan road, Ago-Iwoye.

He said on receiving the distress call, the DPO quickly led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested and the cutlass he used to commit the crime was also recovered.

“The suspect severed the head of the 99-year-old woman with the cutlass,” he added.

Oyeyemi said the body of the deceased has been deposited at Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary for post mortem examination.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police State, Criminal investigation and Intelligence Department, DCP Wale Abass, to take over the case for diligent prosecution of the suspect.
