A Europe-based Nigerian, Mr Eghosa Osarietinomwan, has been allegedly murdered by his childhood friend, Mr Amadin William, in Oben community in Orhionmwon LGA of Edo State.

The incident allegedly occurred during a house-warming ceremony organised by the victim on December 22, 2025.

It was gathered that the suspect lured the victim into a bush path after stepping out to ease himself during the celebration and attacked him with a machete following which he was rushed to a hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The suspect was said to have fled the community after the incident but was tracked and arrested by the police in Benin City on December 27.

It was gathered that the victim returned from Europe to celebrate the yuletide with his family when he was hacked to death.

Angered by the killing, youths in the community set the suspect’s house ablaze, leading to further unrest.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect had been arrested and was in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

She also disclosed that two people were arrested in connection with the arson that followed the murder.
