The police in Katsina State have arrested one Ahmed Saidu of Durmin Biri village of Kafur Local Government Area over the death of Yari Inusa during a Fulani traditional game of ‘Sharo’.
The two were entangled in the game for the hand of a bride in the village. The game entails exchange of floggings, where the strongest and bravest wins the bride’s hand in marriage.
Daily Trust gathered that when it was the turn of Saidu to flog, he decided to hit the victim on his head instead of the back, leading to his death.
Spokesman of the police command DSP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s father Inusa Muhammed reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the suspect.
He said the victim was hit in the presence of many who came to witness the traditional game, noting that the victim fell on the floor after the hit and was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The corpse has since been released to the family and buried according to Islamic rites, he added
Isah added that the suspect confessed to the crime and as soon as investigation was concluded will be charged to court.
