A mob in Unguwar Shadadi, Kuje Area Council, FCT, reportedly lynched an unidentified man for allegedly stealing a motorcycle from a mosque.

Usman Ibrahim, a resident of Shadadi, stated that the incident occurred on Saturday around 8:12 pm, while Muslims were observing Isha’i prayers at the mosque.

He explained that the suspect pretended to join the congregational prayers but quietly slipped away to take the bike.

According to Ibrahim, a resident, who was about to enter the mosque grew suspicious of how the man was moving the bike and raised an alarm.

“It was the alarm raised by one of the residents that made some boys go after him and apprehend him,” Ibrahim said.

He added, “Before you know what was happening, they had already lynched the suspect.”

Suleiman Yakubu, a local vigilante member, confirmed the incident, noting that “before vigilantes could get information and mobilize to the scene, the suspect had already been lynched by the mob.”

Local police reported that the incident was not officially filed and efforts to reach SP Josephine Adeh, the spokeswoman for the FCT police command, for comment were unsuccessful.
