An Ekiti State chief magistrates’ court sitting in Ilawe Ekiti has sentenced Lucky Obere and Emmanuel Samson to six years imprisonment each.

Samson, the ex-husband of the complainant, alongside Obere, were convicted on two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.

The chief magistrate, Olufemi Ayedun, in her ruling said the prosecution had established that the two defendants conspired to carry out the attack on Alice Samson.

“Accordingly, the two defendants are found guilty as charged,” Ayedun ruled.

On count one, they were sentenced to three years imprisonment each, while on count two, they were equally sentenced to three years imprisonment each without an option of fine and the sentences are to run concurrently.

The two convicts were arrested on November 19, 2021, in Ilawe Ekiti, for stabbing Alice Samson with a knife on the head, arm and other parts of the body.

They were subsequently arraigned in court for committing the offences.

Testifying before the court, Alice said, the 2nd defendant was her former husband with whom she had five children. She said she and her son were riding in a tricycle to Ipetu Ijesa to see her mother and they saw the 1st defendant, Lucky Obere, chasing the tricycle with a Bajaj motorcycle.

She said he caught up with them along Igbara-Odo Ekiti road and ran after her son who rode the tricycle to the bush. And while shouting for help, she saw her former husband appear from the bush and start beating her up and in the process, he stabbed her with a knife on the head, arm and other parts of the body in the presence of Lucky Obere.

To prove his case, the police prosecutor, Inspector Morountonu Adegboyega, called three witnesses and tendered extrajudicial statements among others as exhibits.

The defendants spoke in their own defence through their counsel and called no witnesses.
