The police yesterday told an Ogba, Lagos, chief magistrate court how a 35-year-old man, Festus Ekuku, defiled his neighbour’s three-year-old daughter.

The prosecutor, Mr Christopher John, asked the court to mete out stiff punishment to Ekuku, insisting that the accused lured the girl to his apartment at Okoson Street, Afromedia, Okokomaiko, Lagos, where he defiled her.

John alleged that the accused forcefully penetrated the girl and injured her. The girl’s mother, he added, knew of the incident when she wanted to bath her.

“When the mother probed further, the three-year-old said she was feeling pains in her private part as a result of the injury she sustained in the room of the accused,” he said.

The matter was reported to the Gender Section of the police command and detectives arrested Ekuku. During interrogation, the police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba magistrate’s court with defilement.

Ekeku was remanded in prison custody as the court denied him bail and refused to take his plea.

The presiding magistrate, Mr Peter Nwaka, directed the prosecutor to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
