A Katsina Magistrates’ Court has remanded one Amadu Garba for alleged involvement in the killing of the Chief Imam of his village, Malam Basru Auwal.

Garba, of Dundumi Village in Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State was said to have contested for the post of the chief imam which made him a prime suspect in the death of Malam Basiru Auwal.

According to Police First Information deposited at the court, the deceased’s younger brother, Ibrahim Auwal, reported the matter to the police thereby leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The police report said the body of the deceased was found in his room ripped open with the intestines gushing out. It added that multiple cuts and injuries were also found on the deceased’s hands and legs.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that the suspect was being charged with culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with death.

He said investigation was ongoing and asked the court for an adjournment to enable the police conclude investigation.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Fadilla Dikko, adjourned the matter to March 29 for further mention.
