A 28-year-old man, Abdulrahman Arizika, who was charged before a chief magistrates’ court, Ogba-Lagos for allegedly, defiling a nine-year-old girl in Lagos, has been remanded in custody.
The accused was charged with defilement and assault on a minor and if found guilty would be jailed 12 years with hard labour.
The police said the incident happened at Mile 12 Market square on the morning of December 8, 2021.
According to the police, the accused allegedly lured the minor around 8am into the market and was “caught in the act by security men who were around.”
The prosecutor said he was handed over to the police for interrogation.
The court ordered his remand in custody following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, who asked the court to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, granted the motion and adjourned the matter to January 14, 2022.
