A Kano Sharia court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 34-year-old man, Nura Yusuf Ahmed, at a correctional centre for disguising as a banker to defraud a group of women N1.8 million.

The defendant, who resides in Tambuwal LGA of Sokoto State, was charged with breach of trust and theft.

The prosecutor, Aliyul Abideen, told the court that one Maryam Abubakar reported to the police that Nura Yusuf Ahmed requested money from her with the agreement that he would give her a loan which she would pay in instalments.

Abideen said, “Maryam then gathered 11 women and generated N1.8m for him. He said he was going to give them N3m each, but he disappeared.”

The Khadi, Nura Yusuf Ahmed, after ordering the defendant’s remand, adjourned to October 5.
