Man remanded for sleeping in an abandoned train coach
The middle-aged man told the court that he resorted to sleeping inside the abandoned
A forty-five year-old man, Olalekan Ibrahim, has been remanded on the orders of an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos, for allegedly sleeping inside an abandoned train coach in Lagos.
Ibrahim was charged with trespassing but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The middle-aged man told the court that he resorted to sleeping inside the abandoned train coach because he could not raise enough money to rent a room.
“My Lord, I along with others, who are homeless, started sleeping in the old abandoned train coaches parked within the premises of the Nigerian Railway Corporation compound in Ebute Metta, Lagos, because we do not have money to rent accommodation,” he said.
The accused who was granted a N50,000 bail by the presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Oshoniyi, was remanded because he could not meet up with the bail condition.
The police prosecutor, Inspector O. Kehinde, told the court that the accused was arrested by the police at railway command for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.
He asked the court to give a date for hearing to enable the police to establish that the accused actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A. A. Oshoniyi, granted Ibrahim bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in the correctional centre at Kirikiri, Lagos, pending when he would perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned until September 9, 2021, for mention.
