An Akure chief magistrate court, Ondo State, has ordered that a 22-year-old man, Seun Ojo, be remanded in Olokuta prison for allegedly stealing Bibles and a cash sum of  N100,000.

Ojo was dragged before the court on a count charge of armed robbery.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence on April 28, 2019 at about 12.30pm at Ojomo Estate, Owo, within the magistrate district.

The prosecution said the defendant, armed with one locally made gun and a cutlass, attacked and robbed one Regina Abraham of two Bibles, a Techno mobile phone and a sum of N100,000.

The plea of the defendant was not taken when the charge was read to him.

Police prosecutor, Sergeant Suleiman Abdullateef, prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody pending   legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.

The magistrate, Mrs Victoria Bob-Manuel, held that the charge was a case of armed robbery, which the court lacked jurisdiction.

Bob-Manuel ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta prison pending the issuance of the legal advice.

The prosecutor, was ordered to make available both the original and duplicate of the case file to the court clerk, while the court clerk was also mandated to dispatch the duplicate to the DPP’s office and the original to the office of the Chief Registrar, Ondo State, for safe-keeping.

The case was adjourned to June 19, 2019.
