Man remanded in prison for stealing polo shirts

A middle-aged man, Solomon Abraham, has been arraigned before an Akure magistrate court, Ondo State, for allegedly stealing polo shirts valued at N7,000.

Abraham was said to have stolen the shirts belonging to one Joseph Abosede on June 1, 2018 at about 6am at Oja-Oba, Akure.

The defendant, who was not represented by any lawyer, pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the defendant was caught at Ogbese at the point of selling the stolen shirts.

Olowofeso added that Abraham had been begging he would pay back the money for the shirts but had to be arraigned in court when he failed to fulfill his promise.

The defendant’s statement was tendered in court as an exhibit.

Magistrate (Mrs) Ruth Olumilua, ruled that the defendant undoubtedly committed the offence and consequently convicted him.

Olumilua, however, reserved sentence till December 23, 2019 and ordered that Abraham be remanded in prison till then.
