Man remanded over alleged kidnapping, murder in Ekiti

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of 37-year-old Ibrahim Abubakar at the Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti over alleged conspiracy, robbery, kidnapping, and murder.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, informed the court that the defendant and others at large were reasonably suspected to have murdered one Mohamodu Ibrahim. Inspector Oriyomi said the defendant also committed the offences of conspiracy and the kidnapping of Jubril Abu, Ibrahim Ali, Mohamodu Ibrahim, and Awa Jubril.
The prosecutor added that the offences are punishable under Sections 314, 312(2)(a) & (b), 279(1)(a)(c), and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He said the crimes allegedly occurred within the Ayedun camp in the Ikole-Ekiti Magisterial District on or about May 7, 2025, at about 11pm.
In an ex parte application, Inspector Oriyomi noted that the original case file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
He requested that the court remand the suspect pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The defendant was represented by Barrister Oluwafemi Alabi, but his plea was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted the remand application and adjourned the case until February 24 for mention.
