Man remanded over attempted murder, assault on police officers

A Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of Agbadaola Adebowale (45) on charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, stated that the defendant is reasonably suspected of having committed the attempted murder of Chief Tunde Bamigbotogun, serious assault on police officer,ASP Jegede Raphael and two others, malicious damage to a police van, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Inspector Oriyomi pointed out that these offenses are punishable under Sections 244, 241, 187, 58, 363, 147(b), and 313(3) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

 He added that the case file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister Olumide Olowolafe, urged the court to consider the case a bailable offence rather than a capital offence.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun ordered the defendant to be remanded until August 11 and directed that the bail application be re-presented.
