Man remanded over rape in Ekiti

A 45-year old man, Abajigan Gbenga, has been remanded in the correctional custody in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged rape of a 65-year-old woman.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court that the suspect is suspected to have raped a 65-year old woman.

Inspector Adeniyi said the defendant committed the offence on June 24, at Ipole-Ekiti, adding that there is need for further investigation and that the original case file has been sent to the DPP for legal advice.

The prosecutor said the offence is punishable under Section 265(2) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

The Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, ordered the remand of the defendant at the Ado-Ekiti correctional custody until July 31 for mention.
