The trial started last Friday before an Igbosere chief magistrate court of a 32-year-old man who allegedly obstructed and resisted a court sheriff, Mr Disu, who was carrying out his official duties.

The accused person, Lanre Olufowokan, is facing trial on a two-count criminal charge of disrespecting a court order obstructing Sherrif Disu in the discharge of his duties.

The offence is punishable under Section 104 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

According to police prosecutor Inspector Edward Abiodun, Olufowokan committed the offence on March 12, 2019 at about 9.45am at No. 6, Emma Abimbola Cole Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, by intentionally disrespecting an order of a court and obstructing Sherrif Disu, an officer of the Lagos State judiciary, from pasting necessary court documents on the above-mentioned address.

It was further alleged that the accused person, on the same date, place and time obstructed and resisted Sherrif Disu in the discharge of his duties and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 117 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

If found guilty of this offence, the accused person risks a three-year jail term, with an option of N300,000 fine.

Olufowokan pleaded not guilty to the two counts.  The trial judge adjourned further trial till August 29, 2019.
