Man seeks dissolution of 27-year-old marriage over wife’s ‘bad habit’

An aged man, Mr Adekunle Alani, has taken his wife, Titilayo, before a Customary Court sitting in Ake, Abeokuta, Ogun State, to seek dissolution of a 27-year-old marriage.

Alani alleged lack of love, bad habit, frequent fighting and lack of peace of mind against Titilayo as his grounds for filing the divorce suit.

He equally prayed the court to grant him custody of the children.

Alani told the court yesterday that he decided to end the 27-year-old marriage in the interest of peace, saying his wife had demonstrated that she would not shift ground over alleged bad habit.

The marriage has produced four daughters –  Dolapo, Sekina, Esther and Christiana.

The respondent, however, told the court she was still interested in the marriage, blaming the crisis in the home on her husband’s family members.

Titilayo said she could not afford to walk away from the marriage at the expense of her children.

“It would have been easy for me to walk away if there are no children between me and my husband. All the reasons he cited for the divorce suit are all lies. I have suffered for him and his family, yet they repaid me with evil. I leave everything for God to judge,” she said.

EKO TRUST reports that no fewer than six people from both the wife and husband’s families were in the court, seeking amicable resolution rather divorce.

The president of the court, Mrs A. O. Abimbola, asked the family members to intervene and resolve the lingering marital crisis.

The court however adjourned the matter till April 21, 2020 for the process report on the resolution effort.
