A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Elias Adi, to eight months in prison for stealing 30 tubers of yam and 25 litres of palm oil.
Adi, who lives in Wuse Zone 6 is charged with trespass and theft.
The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, convicted and sentenced Adi following his guilty plea.
However, Maiwada gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N15, 000, and warned him to desist from committing crimes.
Earlier, prosecution counsel, Mrs Ijeoma Ukagha, submitted that a businesswoman, Regina Akwayi of the same address Abuja reported the matter to Utako Police Station on April 27.
Ukagha said that the convict trespassed into the complainant’s Garden at Wuse Zone 6 without her consent.
She said the convict stole 25 liter of palm oil, 3 big cooking pots, 20 plastic chair, 30 tubers of yam, 2 bags of semovita, 1 bag of rice and 1 bag of garri.
The prosecutor said the stolen items valued N185, 000 but the convict was arrested during police investigation and 3 cooking pots were recovered from him.
She said that the convicts made confessional statement during police investigation but all effort made to recovered other items prove abortive.
The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
