Man sentenced to death for killing neighbour in Kano

A Kano high court sitting at Miller Road has sentenced Balarabe Ahmad, a resident of Unguwa Uku quarters in Kano metropolis, to death by hanging.

The court, presided by Justice Nasiru Saminu, found the convict guilty of committing culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the penal code law.

The prosecution counsel from the Kano Ministry of Justice, Barr Umar Yakubu, told the court that the convict had an argument with one Mudashir Kamis in his neighbourhood and in the process stabbed him to death.

The prosecution produced witnesses and tendered exhibits before the court.

The convict denied committing the offence.

However, the judge ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The defence advocate, A. H. Mukthar, pleaded with the court for leniency.

But the court sentenced Balarabe to death by hanging, noting that the convict has 30 days in which to appeal against the death verdict.
