A man identified as Success Lukman reportedly slumped and died during a training session at the Kwara State stadium complex, Ilọrin.
The incident, it was gathered, occurred over the weekend when the deceased and his colleagues were having a five-a-aside competition at one of the training pitches.
He was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital, Ilọrin, where he was pronounced dead.
A patient who witnessed the scene at the hospital, Mr Jamiu Tomori, told our correspondent on Wednesday that, “It was just like a movie watching his lifeless body on the stretcher.
“It was obvious from the appearances of his colleagues that they were coming straight from a field looking dirty and shabby while some couldn’t hold back tears.”
A friend of the deceased who was also part of the training session, Oladele Abolarin, aka Radical, said all efforts to revive him were futile.
Radical told City & Crime that the deceased was a Muslim from Oyo State, adding that their vehicle had an accident while taking the body home for burial.
He said, “During the session, Lukman slumped without anyone touching him; there was no contact at all.
“But he was pronounced dead by doctors when we arrived at the hospital. It was a shocking and terrible incident.”
Radical further explained that they had an accident while conveying the deceased to his hometown in Oyo state for burial.
He said, “Myself, the driver, and a colleague sustained injuries in an accident we had while we were taking his corpse to Oyo for burial at Eyenkorin, just after the bridge.
‘’We have buried him according to Islamic rights from which we just returned.’’
