The police in Ogun State have arrested a 35-year-old man, Habeeb Kasali for allegedly stabbing to death one 32-year-old Bamidele Johnson, who he suspected to be his wife’s lover.

It was learnt that the suspect was arrested following information received by the police at Igbesa Divisional Headquarters from a relation of the deceased.

The suspect who reportedly engaged the deceased in a fight, was said to have  used scissors to stab the deceased severally in his chest, eye and neck, leading to his death.

The spokesman of the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday, said the suspect disappeared shortly after he committed the crime.

He, however, said the DPO Igbesa Divisional Headquarters, SP Abayomi Adeniji, quickly despatched his detectives who later arrested the suspect.

Oyeyemi confirmed that the suspect used scissors to stab the deceased severally in his chest, eye and neck as a result of which the deceased lost consciousness.

“He was immediately rushed to CREST hospital at Isuti road Egan in Lagos where he was confirmed in dead by the doctor.

“Having realized that the victim died, the suspect took to his heels, but the DPO Igbesa Divisional Headquarters SP Abayomi Adeniji, quickly despatched his detectives to go after him and he was eventually arrested,” the statement said.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited in Ota General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
