Death by Hanging
A Kano State High Court has sentenced 22-year-old Najibullah Alkasim to death by hanging for killing his neighbour, Isyaku Ya’u, during a dispute at a celebration party in Dakata Quarters on January 19, 2024.
Justice Farida Dabappa held that the prosecution proved the charge of culpable homicide beyond a reasonable doubt, noting that Alkasim stabbed the deceased in the chest with a screwdriver during the argument.
Prosecution Counsel, Lamido Abba-Sorondinki, told the court that the incident occurred at a party organised to celebrate an election victory.
The court received testimonies from four witnesses, a medical report, a photograph, the weapon used, and Alkasim’s alleged confessional statement.
Alkasim denied the allegation, and his lawyer, Tasiu Daneji, presented three defence witnesses, but the court found their evidence insufficient.
