A Benin magistrate’s court yesterday sentenced one Ekene Nwane, 25, to 14 years imprisonment for abducting one Success Evelyn Imasuen, 8. 

Police prosecutor, Inspector Omoruyi Osayomwambor, told the court that Nwane abducted his victim for the purpose of ritual but was later caught. An offence he said is punishable under Section 371 of the criminal code.

He said the suspect also deprived the victim of motherly care as a result of the abduction which took place on September 19 in Benin city.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency, saying he would not commit crime again.

Magistrate Igho Braimah, thereafter ordered that his 14 years imprisonment should be with hard labour.
