A 38-year-old man, Bashir Isah, has been arraigned before a chief magistrate’s court sitting in Minna for alleged complicity in the death of his son.

The accused, an indigene of Ebbo village in Lapai Local Government of Niger State, allegedly forced his son, Aliyu Bashir, to take native medicine to enhance his intelligence but died in the process.

According to the police first information report on the matter obtained by our correspondent, yesterday, one Aisha Bashir, the deceased’s mother, reported at the Lapai Police Division on September 19, that her husband, Isah forced her son to drink the native medicine so that he would be very bright in the future.

“In the process, Aliyu died few minutes after taking the medicine,” the report said.

The police prosecutor, Emmanuel Danladi, told the court yesterday that the accused confessed to have committed the crime during police investigation. He also pleaded guilty to the charge.

The presiding magistrate, Maryam King, thereafter ordered that the case-file be transferred from the police to the state Ministry of Justice for advice.

She also ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to October 26 for further mention.
