A middle-aged man, who allegedly hacked two pupils to death in Ogun Waterside area on Monday, has been arrested.

Lekan Adebisi, who is suspected to be mentally unstable, reportedly stormed St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Agodo, in Ogun Waterside area of Ogun State during break time and unleashed the horror.

A manhunt began and Lekan was eventually arrested at Area J4 of the local government, several kilometres from the scene of the incident.

Meanwhile, the police command has confirmed the arrest. In a statement, the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that the arrest was in compliance with CP Illiyasu Ahmed’s order to the area commander, which led to the mobilisation of policemen and local hunters for the manhunt of the suspect.

“Their effort paid off in the early hours of today (Wednesday) when the suspect was seen in a bush around the community. While they wanted to arrest him, the suspect who was brandishing a sharp cutlass attacked them, consequent upon which he was shot and injured in the leg,” Oyeyemi stated.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, Comrade Olufemi Onanuga, expressed shock over the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent.

Onanuga expressed shock by the distance Lekan covered in 48 hours, arousing suspicion of his acclaimed insanity.

“He was crying and begging for leniency. We are all shocked. How can somebody we all know to be mad realise the magnitude of his offence to start begging?” Onanuga wondered.
