The High Court of Cross River State has sentenced one Mr Anyanime Festus to death by hanging for killing his twin female children over allegation of witchcraft.

The incident happened in 2017 when the children were 11 years old.

The court held that Festus gruesomely murdered the twins, named Mfoniso Anyanime and Emediong Anyanime.

Convicting Festus, Justice A. A. Onyebueke said he intentionally committed the crime.

Festus, who is in his 50s, could not defend his allegation of witchcraft against the children when cross examined.

A child rights activist, Mr James Ibor, principal partner of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BCRI), said the matter was first reported in February, 2017, and that they facilitated the prosecution.
