A strong Manchester United XI was defeated by Wrexham 1-0 in its first match of the pre-season at the Olympic stadium in Helsinki, Finland.
The Welsh side playing in the English Championship scored in the winning goal in the first half against their more illustrious English Premier League opponents that fielded its stars in the first half.
The club handed a debut to their £50 million signing Andrey Santos, with Harry Maguire leading the team out in Finland.
Sam Smith scored the only of the match in the 39th minute as Manchester United fielding their most experienced side, with Bryan Mbeumo leading the attack, and Mason Mount pairing Santos in midfield.
The Red Devils did not trouble Championship side Wrexham in the first half, but almost took the lead via own goal on 38 minutes.
However, the table turned one minute later as Sam Smith scored the only goal of the match when a cross found him at the far post, and he tucked into an open net to hand Wrexham the lead.
Both sides changed their entire teams in the second half sand there was not much action for the more than 20,000 spectators that thronged into the Olympic stadium to see one of the most popular clubs in world football.
It was a disappointing day for Michael Carrick’s side though, but Wrexham remain unbeaten in pre-season after two matches.
