The Plateau State government has promised to compensate victims of Friday’s evening attack on wedding travellers in the state.

The wedding travellers, residents of Basawa community in Zaria local government area of Kaduna state ,were attacked in the Mangun district of Mangu Local Government Area while en route to Qua’an Pan for a ceremony.

13 travelers were killed, and 19 others injured in the incident.

The incident has triggered outrage nationwide.

Speaking with BBC Hausa, on Wednesday, Joyce Ramnap, Commissioner of Information, said the state government is working to compensate the victims.

“It is a must. We will compensate . We are looking at the ways on how to compensate. Government is waiting for police report on the incident. Police are investigating the matter.”

According to the commissioner, state government is making efforts to prevent further occurrence of such incidents, emphasizing that “ by the special grace of God, government will take strong measures. We are always wishing for peace and harmony amongst residents of the state irrespective of their etho-religious affliction.

“The security forces have already arrested 22 suspects in connection with the attack. Security is investigating the matter and whoever is found responsible, will be punished. We are in touch with the Kaduna state government on the matter.

Ramnap, however, called on the residents to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, reiterating that the state is a home of peace.
