How would you sum up your year?
So far, I have had a smooth outing both in the league and in the national teams at the U20 World Cup and Africa Women Championship. It has been a great experience for me.
Would you say this is your best year as a footballer?
So far, I will say ‘yes’, this is my best year.
What would you say is responsible for your scintillating form this year?
Well, I will say it is hard work and discipline. I am a very discipline person. I work with time and also do extra work. After training, I stay back to master my skills. However, I won’t downplay the place of God as I don’t undermine the impact of prayers at all.
With your outstanding display this year, are you eyeing the ‘Best Female Player in the continent Award this year?
I am not fighting for that and I won’t say ‘this is what I will win or not win’. It’s the people who are watching that can judge, I can’t judge myself. But I know I have had everything this year and I thank God for that.
What are you looking forward to after this season?
For now, I still have a lot of things to do at Rivers Angel. I am still a Rivers Angels player. Though, I will like to take my trade abroad but for now, I don’t have any at hand. I still belong to Rivers Angel. Everything now is just about the FA cup and the league.
Don’t you have teams coming for you?
I won’t want to lie about it, I have a lot of offers at hand but I am yet to decide.
Where are the offers from?
Some of the offers are from France, Portugal, Germany, England and others.
Among the offers, which will you likely pick?
That is a question I won’t like to respond to for now. This is because I’m yet to decide.
After 18 games, Rivers Angels are leading the Nigeria Women League. Do you think you have what it takes to be crowned champions at end of the season?
Well, for now nobody can predict but I am so confident that Rivers Angels will win this league this time around. We are not giving up not until the last game.
How will you rate the growth of women football in Nigeria presently, following the country’s victory in Namibia and the U20’s exploits in Canada?
Nigeria’s football as a whole has really improved. Losing the African Women’s Championship Cup to Equatorial-Guinea two years ago was a very bad experience for us and we had to talk about it and we vowed to go all the way for the trophy. Also, our U17 male team won the World Cup, the U20 women team got to the final of the World Cup while our senior male team won the Nations Cup. I believe football is growing generally in Nigeria.
The national women team’s coach, Edwin Okon has promised to win the world Cup next year for Nigeria, do you think it is possible?
We will not just go there to complete the number of participating teams.
We will be there to make impact. We will let the world know that we are not just Africa’s champions but a potential world champions as well. I won’t tell you that we will win the championship but I can only say we will do well.
Can you tell us which of your team mates in the U20 and senior national teams have brought out the best in you?
All my team mates have been wonderful. The full backs, midfielders and attackers all pass to me whenever I was in a good position. However, some of the players were more complimentary than others because of our proximity on the pitch. For the U20 national team, it was Courtney Dike.
She reads my movements well and she compliments me so well. Our partnership at the U20 World Cup was a deadly one. For the senior team, I will say it is Desire Oparanozie. She is really good.
Can you tell me about your educational background?
I did my school certificate but presently, I’m just focusing on my football. I don’t have the intention of going further for now.
How was it like growing up as a female child?
It was a normal experience like every other female child. The only hard part was the fact that I was playing football and my parent didn’t allow me. It was later that they then decided to allow me do what I wanted to do. I thank God today; I have not regretted my decision to play football.
Do you have anyone in your family who once played football?
None of my family members played professionally but my dad played football like every other Nigerian man.
Tell me about your siblings, how many are you?
We are just two, me and my kid sister. Though, I am from a polygamous family but from my mum, we are just two.
What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is Amala, Gbegiri and ewedu soup. Although, I like rice and beans too.
Which part of the South-West are you from?
I’m from Lagos State, Ikorodu South local government.
