Daily Trust gathered that the bomb exploded at about 8:09pm outside the viewing center gate injuring scores of people while others were killed.
One of the survivors who jumped over the cinema fence said the bomb went off from a tricycle parked outside the viewing centre.
“We had a deafening sound, and people started screaming, calling for help. I jumped over the fence and ran to safety,” he said. “Only God knows how many people lost their lives.”
The Yobe State Police Commissioner, Marcus Danladi, confirmed the incident but said he was yet to get the details.
The defense headquarters had warned recently before the commencement of the World Cup holding in Brazil urging members of the public to stay away from public viewing centers as they had become soft targets by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Few weeks ago, there was a bomb blast at a center in Adamawa killing many people and injuring others. This prompted the state government to ban public viewing center while the world cup last.
