Following a series of attacks in their communities, hundreds of residents of five villages in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State have deserted their homes.
The affected villages, namely, Kopre, Zah, Kinging, Mubang, and Dabna, have a combined population of 10,344. Many of the fleeing villagers are relocating to safer areas such as Hong, Gombi, Song and Yola.
Dr Herbert Rufus Hanawa, Principal Special Assistant to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Budget, revealed the situation during a courtesy call to the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley.
Hanawa disclosed that 40 residents from the community remain in captivity, two years after their abduction, while 18 others managed to escape after being held for a year.

The attacks were said to be on the increase owing to the location of the villages close to Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.
In response to the crisis, Hanawa appealed for the establishment of a military base in the area to secure the communities from attacks.
Speaker Wesley acknowledged the gravity of the situation, emphasising that peace is essential for development.
He assured that legislators would lobby to ensure the restoration of peace in the affected communities, prioritizing the security and well-being of the displaced residents.
