Many people were injured on Saturday  when suspected political thugs attacked Senator Ahmed Ogembe (PDP, Kogi Central) during his empowerment programme at Okene local government area of Kogi State. 

Daily Trust reports that incident occurred at Afims Hotels, venue of the empowerment programme designed for over 1,000 women from across the five local government areas in his district. 

It was gathered that the suspected thugs allegedly invaded the venue with dangerous weapons at about 8am , unleashing mayhem on constituents that turned out for the programme. 

Ogembe, who was still able to carry out his empowerment programme, condemned the attack and called on the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

"Today’s event is a microcosm credit scheme for women and disbursement of N20,000 each to 1,200 women cutting across the five local government councils of Kogi central as direct beneficiaries of the second phase of my empowerment scheme," he said.
