The unfolding, unfortunate drama between the Nigerian Army and Shi’ites in Zaria, Kaduna State, is confounding beyond words. While space won’t let me voice out my complete feelings, I just want to point out something. The soldiers who fired at unarmed civilians cannot and should not be defended. They could have used rubber bullets, for God’s sake, and the irate youths would have retreated. There can be no justification for firing at unarmed people, no matter how the raging insurgency in the North-East has made our armed forces trigger-happy. Justice needs to be done.
